Metal with a Heart

Whatever you may think of metal, this is an interesting sound.

An incarnation of creativity that is as equally thought-provoking as it is
energizing - a meticulously coordinated integration of the domains of the mind
and spirit. A shot of adrenaline injected directly into the brain – soliciting
a response that is both primal and intellectual. Austin-based Ethereal Architect
has shattered preconceptions about the progressive metal genre and commanded
the respect of those who have heard their message. Their new album, Dissension,
revitalizes the idea that real art was never meant to be sedative.

Blues Guitar Goddess - Carolyn Wonderland

She may be well-known (and beloved) in her adopted home of Austin, this Houston-native has the goods. As a songwriter, singer and guitarist, she has a pedigree in this business that's hard to match. Incorporating elements of Blues, Country, Swing, Zydeco, Surf, Gospel, Soul, and some nights, maybe even a Cumbia into the musical mix, you never know what you're going to get but you know you'll love it.

The collaboration that yielded "Miss Understood", Carolyn's 7th album, came from a casual question from Bob Dylan, asking about Wonderland when had lunch in 2005 with Ray Benson. Well, he did found out about her. He found out so well that he serves as producer on the album as well as a performer and writer on some tracks.

She's heading off on tour to promote the recording and we wish her well.

The Octopus Project - Rocking Somewhere Near You

Congrats to The Octopus Project for the stir their recent release "Hello, Avalanche" on Peek-A-Boo has generated. Aside from winning last year's MySpace favorite band contest and being singled out as one of the TOP Five bands to watch from the 2006 SXSW festival, most recently by David Fricke, Rolling Stone's senior music editor, in his "Fricke's Picks."

The November 29th issue Mr. Fricke described the band as, "smart pop scientists and total party animals, like Stereolab with happy feet," and the album as "tightly composed bundles of synthesized whoop and circus-calliope cheer."

November Featured Artist: Walt Wilkins

Featured Track: Going Up to Fort Worth

Walt Wilkins is a rare combination of song writer, performer, singer, and person. I've known him through the business and watched him maintain his perspective and humanness, still get things done the way he wants them and keep all his friends cheering him on.

Its easy after listening to understand why his song "Going Up to Fort Worth" is a natural one to be featured. In it you can hear the reason why some of us consider Walt to be ". . the heir apparent of the Texas songwriter’s crown."
